The first steps on your fitness journey can be daunting. There's a lot to learn as you work to set up a sustainable routine, and the process can feel overwhelming at times. Here are five tips that we encourage future fitness buffs to consider when figuring out what route works best for you!

 Identify your goals! Understanding what you want to accomplish and how you plan to get there is super important in keeping yourself accountable. Being mindful and intentional about how you pursue your goals turns fitness from a chore into a routine.

 Focus on consistency! Success in fitness comes from being able to commit to your goals over a long period. Doing those super intense workouts that leave you unable to move can be super energizing, but are you able to repeat them twice in a week?

 Find a group! Having some like-minded friends to join your workout is a huge motivator! Whether you prefer to do your workouts in a class or respond best to a single lifting buddy, you'll start seeing more results when you stop doing things alone.

 Master the basics. Sure, we all dream of doing reverse 1-handed pullups, but it's important to master things like squats, lunges, and deadlifts first. Even as you graduate to more complex ranges of motion, these are always going to be useful tools in your fitness arsenal. Getting your form down takes time, however, so it's important not to rush.

 Give yourself grace! Your fitness journey isn't going to be linear. Some weeks will go fantastic while others will completely sputter out. It's important to be kind to yourself when dealing with the latter. Feeling discouraged is natural from time to time. When you do, it's important to remember that no matter how tough today is, you'll be getting back to things tomorrow.
