Follow These Five Tips on Driver Safety to Prevent Auto Accidents

Whether you're a new driver or have held your license for decades, we're all human and make mistakes. Here are a few friendly reminders on how to stay safe on the road.

Slow Down

For all you lead-foot drivers out there, this one's for you. There's a reason why speed limits exist and it's for the safety of you and everyone else on the road. Engineers work hard to determine the maximum speed a car can go on a road and those numbers on the road signs aren't suggestions.

Eyes on the Road

Put the phone, map, or other gadgets down and focus on the road. You may as well be driving blindfolded and you become a hazard to everyone around you when you're not paying attention.

Avoid Substances Before Driving

Alcohol and other substances that lower reaction time and induce sleep should never be ingested prior to getting behind the wheel of a car. If you feel that you may pose a hazard by driving, call a taxi or a rideshare company like Uber or Lyft.

Feeling Sleepy? Pull Over

If you're tired, you run the risk of falling asleep behind the wheel. Find a safe place like a fire station parking lot to pull into and take a power nap.

Limit Distractions

Turn down the music, ignore the phone calls, settle the kids, and don't cave to eating on-the-go. You have one job here and that's getting from Point A to Point B safely.

McDivitt Law Firm cares about your safety but, unfortunately, accidents happen when we fail to plan and pay attention. If you've been injured in a car accident, call us immediately to get the compensation we know you deserve.

ABOUT US

In 1974, Mike and Karen McDivitt started what eventually became McDivitt Law Firm. The firm is rooted in the principle that each person deserves to have equal access to the civil justice system. The McDivitts firmly believe that everyone should be able to have an attorney, whether you can afford one or not. Mike made it clear from the start that he doesn’t get a fee unless he is able to get you the money you deserve for your injuries.

In 2007, Karen and Mike’s son David joined the firm as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. A nationally recognized trial lawyer, David now runs the firm’s litigation and trial group, where he is responsible for both trying and supervising jury trials through verdict.

Over the past several decades, the firm has become one of the largest Personal Injury law firms in Colorado. It is still family-owned, but now Mike and Karen McDivitt are able to provide quality legal representation to thousands more clients than they could when they first opened their doors. With more than 80 staff and attorneys, McDivitt Law Firm prides itself on its ability to provide first-class legal representation to each of its clients, in a way that is affordable to anyone.
