Volvo Assembles Its Own EV Batteries & Performs Over-The-Air Updates  

To cut out third-party frustrations in their EV battery assembly, Volvo made the decision to create their own battery lab at its headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden. Here Volvo puts its packs and modules through rigorous testing to ensure optimal quality assurance. Also, Volvo engineers are working on creating battery algorithms to use data shared by customers driving their cars to alter their software. This will make Volvo electric vehicles more efficient by sending out updated over-the-air software updates out to electrified Volvos.

Volvo has a goal to make 50% of its global sales consist of battery-electric vehicles by 2025. To accomplish that, Volvo's electric vehicle suite needs to appeal to drivers who have become accustomed to their rival electric automaker, Tesla, and its ability to do constant over-the-air updates. Since competition breeds innovation, it's likely that Volvo will be hot on the wheels of Tesla's electric vehicle inventory.
