Mazda CX-5 vs. Toyota RAV4 vs. Honda CR-V

 --
There's a lot going on in the compact SUV market which is why we've taken the time to compare the top three leading makes and models in this league.

2020 Mazda CX-5
-
-
The 2020 Mazda CX-5 is a celebration of everything successful about the 2019 model along with some practical improvements. Several features that were part of higher-level trims are now included in the base Sport trim. Chief among these features is the lineup of safety additions that are part of Mazda's i-ACTIVSENSE suite which includes emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure warnings.

One of the most prominent changes for the 2020 model is the series of adjustments made to reduce road noise. By adjusting some of the harshness and vibration of the SUV, Mazda's engineers have all but eliminated the volume that comes from driving on the interstate. Once you've driven with this feature long enough, it's easy to forget that road noise was ever a problem in the first place.

2020 Honda CR-V
-
The 2020 Honda CR-V has been a leader in the compact SUV market but hasn't been able to stand out as a strong contender against the competition. However, despite being small, the 2020 Honda CR-V offers plenty of cargo space and a comfortable interior layout. For safety, the Honda Sensing suite of safety features is now standard for the 2020 Honda CR-V. This means features like forward collision warning with automatic braking, lane departure warning, a road departure mitigation system, and lane-keeping assistance are included with every model. Blind-spot monitoring is available as an option.
-
The latest iteration of the Honda CR-V has been revamped with a standard turbo engine, but it doesn't possess the pep that it should. Another downside is that the infotainment system is clunky and a pain to use. For those who don't need all the bells and whistles and high performance that come with a modern compact SUV, then this is the right one for you.
-
2020 Toyota RAV4
-
Compared to the Mazda CX-5, the 2020 Toyota RAV4 doesn't have the same refined drivetrain, smooth ride, or nimble performance. Like the 2020 Honda CR-V, the Toyota RAV4 sports ample cargo space and a generous suite of safety features. All versions of the 2020 RAV4 come with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, which includes driver's aides such as lane departure warning with steering assist, forward collision warning with automatic braking plus pedestrian and cyclist detection, sway warning, adaptive cruise control, and lane tracing assistance. Every model above base also includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
