Rumors have been circulating about some exciting new developments for Mazda. In April, speculation arose that Mazda would be replacing the Mazda6's spot in its lineup with a new rear-wheel-drive platform featuring an inline-six engine. Although it hasn't been officially confirmed, Mazda enthusiasts are speculating on what this means for the Mazda CX-5.
Saying that the Mazda CX-5 is a best seller is an understatement. The model outsells the rest of the Mazda models combined. Logically, whatever ends up replacing it is going to be a seriously awesome vehicle.
The third-generation model is expected to arrive in 2022, a full five years after the second-generation CX-5's debut in 2017. Early information outlines a 2.5-liter SkyActiv-G engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that commands an impressive 187 horsepower. While early details are still emerging, we're sure that whatever comes next will be a seriously awesome addition to Mazda's already impressive lineup.
