Since the very first Mazda3 Sport has been driven off an assembly line, the model has been winning nonstop praise for featuring such a luxurious and intuitive interior design. It's no secret that Mazda is the leader of the pack in comfortable, practical design, and the Mazda3 continues that legacy.

To show just how awesome the Mazda3's interior is, let's compare it to a rival model: the Mercedes Benz A 220.

Interior Design

The Mercedes A 220 may make a great first impression, but the glamour starts to fade when you actually start driving it. A flimsy plastic wand as a gear shift is a significant red flag, especially given the price of the Mercedes A 220. While the interior features a sharp and dynamic design, it also comes at the expense of material quality. No matter how nice a door looks, it quickly loses some appeal when you're worried about breaking a door panel by closing it.

Meanwhile, the Mazda3 Sport boasts a smooth and elegant interior that further iterates upon the sleek aesthetic that Mazda is known for. Centered around a smooth gearshift action with a leather knob, the Mazda3 is designed to constantly remind the driver that they're in total control of the vehicle.

The Mercedes A 220 is bundled standard with a Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) terminal and voice control system. Multimedia functions are centered on a 7-inch touchscreen display that can also be controlled by buttons on the steering wheel. A hands-free Bluetooth interface allows for Bluetooth audio streaming, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

Drivers of the Mazda3 Sport can expect to enjoy a 'less is more' design with a setup controlled primarily by a rotary dial surrounded by a spread of shortcut buttons for the system's different functions. Additional controls can be found on the steering wheel to allow drivers to operate it without taking their eyes off the road. An 8.8-inch infotainment display boasts both Bluetooth integration and connectivity to a high-fidelity audio system.

Driver Functions

Mercedes committed hard to an 'after dark' aesthetic in the Mercedes A 220, and the result is an interior that shares some design cues with a high-end gaming PC. Several neon light strips are mounted around the cabin of the car to provide a flashy, futuristic terminal. While this makes for some beautiful static shots, it's hard not to feel distracted while driving.

The Mazda 3 Sport features a 'human-centric' interior that's designed to provide a comfortable, intuitive setup for drivers. A crisp analog dashboard communicates important driving information in Mazda's signature 'Kodo' minimalist style, allowing drivers to monitor their speed and milage without having to navigate clunky interfaces.

When you contrast the fancy (and expensive) design notes of the Mercedes A 220 with the Mazda3 Sport's more reserved sensibilities, it's hard not to see the difference. When you compare the price tags, it's also hard not to see which car is offering the better value.
