Mazda's expansion into upmarket ranges has been an open secret, bringing even more buzz to its debuts of new rear-wheel-drive cars that feature inline-6 and PHEV powertrains. Details about the first of these upcoming dream cars just dropped, and everything we know so far has us excited. 

This upcoming model will be a small, rear-wheel-drive crossover called the Mazda CX-50. Drivers can expect it to appear on the market in early 2022, with preorders likely beginning towards the end of this year. 

There are a couple of different engine options for this car, each of which shows off Mazda's latest generation of engineering. The inline-6 variants of the CX-50 will offer either 3.0-liter gasoline and 3.3-liter diesel setup, with both turbocharging and twin-turbocharging options. 

Meanwhile, the PHEV version of the CX-50 will offer a 2.5-liter inline-4 engine. 

It's clear that Mazda is competing with pricier, luxury models through this upcoming lineup, so drivers can expect plenty of amazing features at affordable Mazda prices. While the exact details about the CX-50 are still emerging, we're already sold. If it's anything like its siblings, the CX-50 is about to fill some big shoes.
