Winter Is Coming, Are You Ready?
As we head into the winter months, we have to remember that Colorado weather becomes more and more unpredictable. The early-season snowstorms mean school and business closures, delays, difficult driving conditions, and more car accidents.
When temperatures drop, the roads become icy and dangerous which becomes a recipe for disaster. There are measures you can take to protect yourself and prevent an accident.
First and foremost, drive slowly and don’t text while driving. Keep five to six seconds of distance between you and other cars and avoid stopping on a hill or a bridge. Having your brakes checked and knowing how they operate in the snow is also critical to help avoid an accident. If you are in an accident, pull your car to the side of the road (if it is possible) and take pictures of the scene.
It is also vital to bring plenty of warm attire to wear in case of an accident or breakdown. Bring food and water for situations where you may become stranded. It’s also a good idea to pack a flashlight and have a fully charged cell phone. Since the days of committing phone numbers to memory are long gone, have a list of emergency contacts written down and stored in your glove box in case you need to use someone else's phone. Always check the conditions of the roads that will be traveled and check the news and weather reports for accidents and closures so you arrive at your destination safely. When in doubt, just stay home.

In 1974, Mike and Karen McDivitt started what eventually became McDivitt Law Firm. The firm is rooted in the principle that each person deserves to have equal access to the civil justice system. The McDivitts firmly believe that everyone should be able to have an attorney, whether you can afford one or not. Mike made it clear from the start that he doesn’t get a fee unless he is able to get you the money you deserve for your injuries.

In 2007, Karen and Mike’s son David joined the firm as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. A nationally recognized trial lawyer, David now runs the firm’s litigation and trial group, where he is responsible for both trying and supervising jury trials through verdict.

Over the past several decades, the firm has become one of the largest Personal Injury law firms in Colorado. It is still family-owned, but now Mike and Karen McDivitt are able to provide quality legal representation to thousands more clients than they could when they first opened their doors. With more than 80 staff and attorneys, McDivitt Law Firm prides itself on its ability to provide first-class legal representation to each of its clients, in a way that is affordable to anyone.
