Unsure About the Ins & Outs of Freezing? Give These Tips a Look!

-

If you have a surplus of food but aren't sure what to do with the leftovers, get ready to put your freezer to good use! Bear in mind it's not as simple as opening the freezer door and putting in your food. Follow the below tips to keep your meals tasting great even after a deep freeze:

-
1. Know What Foods Freeze Well: Dishes with lots of sauce as well as soups and stews freeze beautifully, but pasta and rice dishes can become mushy after thawing out.
-
2. Use the Right Size of Containers: Casserole dishes without handles don't take up ample space and plastic bags are excellent choices for freezer storage. Glass Pyrex containers are also excellent for reheating in either a microwave or an oven.
-
3. Label Your Food & Date It: Frozen foods look a lot different than their fresh versions, so grab a magic marker and label what the meal is. Also, don't go longer than two months in the freezer or else the dish could end up with freezer burn.
-
4. Thaw Safely: Either refrigerate, perform cold-water submersion, or use the microwave to defrost your dish. Using hot water or thawing on the counter creates a breeding ground for bacteria.
-
5. Revive Your Meal: Add fresh herbs, spices, or a splash of fresh lemon or lime juice to renew the flavors.
