To that end, Audi has teamed up with its Cariad software vision and a British semiconductor company called Arm. Their mission is a straightforward one: develop a self-driving suite that's both top-of-the-line in user experience AND safety.

For any other automaker, this would seem daunting--but Audi isn't like any other brand. Their goal isn't just to develop a set of self-driving retrofits for popular models and call it good; rather, they're completely rethinking car platforms from the ground up to allow for seamlessly incorporating this technology.

While details are still emerging about what forms this self-driving technology will take, it's impossible not to be excited. Audi's 2022 and 2023 lineups in particular are likely to debut some of this tech, meaning that not only is the future looking bright--it's right around the corner.
