Mazda is gearing up to go after the Toyota RAV4's status in markets like the USA and Australia. While the RAV4 has been incredibly popular in the last few months, the next CX-5 model is looking primed to steal its crown.

Reports suggest that the 2023 CX-5 will feature an impressive lineup of new features, chief among which is a straight-six SkyActiv-X engine. This new addition is a specialty compression-ignition gas engine that manages to provide the low-end torque of a diesel with the power delivery of a gas guzzler. The result is an incredibly efficient engine that's projected to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by 10-30% while still boasting top-of-class power.

According to reports, drivers can expect this engine to produce outputs like an impressive 220kW and 345Nm while still getting 35 miles per gallon.
